A Moxie Movement

Abilene, Tx

est. 2016

A Moxie Movement was founded in Abilene, Texas  in 2016 on a college campus. At the time, Christina Martinez (2nd year) & Jamie Morgan (3rd year) wanted to create a community that would address campus culture on consent and Title IX. Moxie was created. A Moxie Movement has always been, at its core, an intersectional feminist organization. With the guidance of a sociology, a business and a political science professor (yes, all women!!), AMM, held & attended rallies, led weekly meetings on self - awareness and political crash courses, hosted dialogue sessions and served around the local community. Because AMM relies heavily on grassroots support the organization ended May 2018 with graduation of members and low membership.

Fast forward to San Antonio -  2020,  As a collective society  our view of community and how we can safely do it was challenged. It was a year of contemplation of issues (i.e. systemic racism,  financial security, political division and health coverage). A Moxie Movement was re-charted as a Grassroots Intersectional Community Organization. With a new leadership team and great need in the community, we began  to participate in community, create community and support community locally.  As of 2021, we continue to look for opportunities to empower (local artist, businesses, organizations). We  educate ourselves and provide educational opportunities to community.  Lastly, engage with difference (intentionally) in order to truly create a local community.

We thank you for reading our story and look forward to seeing you in the community.
